Logistics Opportunities – Import and Transit from China
Prospects for collaboration with China are growing and strategically significant for Georgia in the logistics sector. According to 2024 data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia, China ranks fourth among Georgia’s largest trading partners, with a trade volume of USD 1,767.1048 million.
Kairos Logistics has collaborated with Georgia’s leading importers in international logistics for over 12 years. For imports from China to Georgia, the company offers comprehensive logistics services, including import planning, transportation of full-container (FCL) and less-than-container (LCL) shipments, warehousing, customs brokerage, and full-process insurance (in partnership with Aldagi Insurance).
First, we will explain the methods used to transport any type of cargo, whether Oversized, regulated, full-container or LCL shipments, as well as the competitive advantages of each.
Road Freight from China
The primary advantage of road freight from China is the shorter transit period—averaging 25–30 days. Additionally, road transport allows for the transportation of any cargo type, including full-container, LCL, and Oversized Cargo.
Rail Freight from China
For rail freight, Kairos Logistics offers 40-foot container transportation from China, with the advantage of a short transit period (approximately 25–30 days). Recently, this has become one of the most in-demand routes due to twice-as-fast delivery times. Another key advantage is that cargo arrives directly in Tbilisi.
Maritime Shipping
Maritime shipping is particularly efficient and cost-effective for long-distance transportation of large-volume cargo. Despite longer transit times, tariffs for maritime shipping have recently decreased due to increased demand for rail freight.
Multimodal Transit Shipments
Multimodal shipments are complex and require maximum coordination and continuous process control. In addition to imports from China to Georgia, Kairos Logistics handles transit cargo via multimodal routes (e.g., China to Europe or Turkey), offering transportation with or without reloading in Poti or Tbilisi.
Post-Import Warehousing/Customs Services
Post-Import Warehousing/Customs Services
If you plan to import but lack warehousing facilities, Kairos Logistics offers cargo receipt, clearance, and storage at its A-Class customs warehouse in Tbilisi (near the Tbilisi-Gezi highway). The warehouse spans 6,300 m² and can store 12,000 Euro pallets. Equipped with a WMS (Warehouse Management System), it ensures optimal control and management of all processes. Unlike standard warehouses, this facility can store regulated goods and transit cargo.
Due to growing demand, the company is constructing a second warehouse (12,000 m²) in the customs terminal Area, set for completion in February 2024. Once operational, the total storage capacity will reach 24,000 Euro pallets.
